It’s hard to get away from Stephen Root these days.

The actor has joined the cast of an untitled hour- long pilot on USA Network, from “Numb3rs” creators Nicolas Falacci and Cheryl Heuton.
The project is based on a short story from Elmore Leonard’s anthology “When the Women Come Out to Dance.” The show will center on Billy (played by Bryan Greenberg, “How to Make it in America”), a Miami businessman who marries a Columbian woman to increase his chances of getting elected to office.
Though it starts as a marriage of convenience, the new wife (played by Stephanie Sigman) has the ability to “fix” problems the corrupt South Miami politics throw at Billy.
Avery Boomer (played by Root) takes on Billy’s political aspirations. Boomer is a long- time Miami campaign manager, power broker and family friend.
Root has appeared on “Boardwalk Empire,” “The Good Wife” and “Justified,” as well as in cult favorite “Office Space” as Milton.
Cotter Smith (“Tru Calling,” “Person of Interest”) will also appear in the pilot as Pruitt, a rich U.S. senator and Billy’s ex’s father. The ex, Melody, will be played by “Pretty Little Liar’s” Amanda Schull.
