Kids, pay your taxes of time.
Alexia Echevarria, one of the original stars on 'Real Housewives of Miami,' is in trouble with the federal government, along with her husband Herman. The couple, who rose to attention on 'RHOM,' owes the Internal Revenue Service almost $100,000 in taxes for 2009. The Miami-Dade County clerk office says the couple's Miami Beach home now has a lien against it. They were notified of the tax status in May but have thus far not paid up.
It has been a bad few months for the Echevarrias. Alexia's oldest son, Peter, caused a bit of a stir in September when he swung on a homeless man, punching him in the groin. He eventually settled the charges against him pending completion of community service.
Her youngest son, Frankie, was involved in a near-fatal car accident last August and is still recovering from it.
Alexia also insulted the "lower people" of Hialeah on the show, causing a bit of angry reaction in the city. Alexia, known as the "Cuban Barbie," has tried to sooth tensions caused by the comment, but once you push the toothpaste out of the tube, it is hard to get back in, you know?
The second season of 'RHOM' ended last month.
