Sorry, sixth-grade girls of the mid-1990s: Rider Strong, best known for his role as Cory Matthews' best friend Shawn Hunter on the popular ABC sitcom Boy Meets World, has proposed to his girlfriend of six years.
A former teen heartthrob whose pinup posters hung in bedrooms and middle school lockers across the country, Strong popped the question on Wednesday to girlfriend Alexandra Barreto, an actress he met in 2006 on the set of the short-lived WB dramedy Pepper Dennis. The couple also worked together two years later on a television commercial supporting presidential candidate Barack Obama that Strong directed, which aired on MTV and Comedy Central and won MoveOn.org's Funniest Ad award. According to his publicist, Strong proposed with a handmade gold ring he created himself.
Despite playing the best friend of Ben Savage's character on Boy Meets World for its entire seven season run, Strong will not be a part of the upcoming sequel series Girl Meets World, which will feature Savage and Danielle Fishel reprising their roles as Cory and Topanga, now raising a little girl of their own. "Boy Meets World was a defining aspect of my life, and I cherish those seven years. It was never just a job — on a personal level, many of my best memories and friendships were formed because of it," he reminisced on his website. "So I am extremely happy for Ben and Danielle to be able to continue the story. At this point, I have no official involvement in Girl Meets World. There might be a chance to see some of the BMW cast in a guest spot, and I think it would be nice to find out where our characters have been all these years. But Girl Meets World will be, and I think it should be, it’s own show. It will be about Cory and Topanga, their daughter, and a new set of characters."
"It’s the next generation," he concluded. "And I, for one, can’t wait to see it evolve."
We here at TV Rage wish Rider Strong and Alexandra Barreto all the best in their life together.
