Earlier this year, NBC premiered one of its most buzzed-about new shows: the musical series Smash, which focuses on the production of a Marilyn Monroe-themed Broadway musical, Bombshell. Though the series featured such stars as Debra Messing, Jack Davenport, and Katherine McPhee, it didn't do too well in the ratings, with its season 1 finale clocking in at around 6 million viewers (down from the 11.44 it started with). Regardless, the show's second season is on the way next year (starting in February) -- and if you want to add yourself to its audience, there's still time.
Smash season 1 is headed to DVD on January 8. The four-disc set will include all fifteen episodes of the first season, in addition to bonus features such as deleted scenes, featurettes, and a gag reel. The set also comes with Ultraviolet copies of each episode, meaning that they can be viewed from the cloud at any time, on any device.
The DVD arrives a month in advance of the second season's February 5 premiere episode, "On Broadway," which will see the musical undergo a severe speed bump as a scandal rocks the production.
