An 'American Idol' is furious that her words (which she wrote and posted to Instagram) have been taken "out of context."
Fantasia Barrino, the season three winner, commented originally with "I Rise ABOVE IT ALL!!! THE WORLD IS GONE MAD. KIDS, THE GOVERNMENT THE church House… Everybody Trying!!!!!!! Its a lot that going on that the Bible speaks about we should Not be doing. Weed legal in some places, Gay Marriage Legal BUT YET IM JUDGED!!! I'm not doing Nothing for you… My Life!!!!"
Apparently readers of that took it "out of context" and thought it was negative towards gay marriage. Fantasia quickly tried to do some damage control.
"NOW I'M ANGRY. MY WHOLE TEAM IS GAY, MY MANAGER IS GAY, MIDDLE FINGER UP TO THOSE WHO SEAK [sic] TO DESTROY ME. IT WON'T WORK," she wrote. "MY STATEMENT WAS TO THOSE WHO SIT BACK AND TRY TO JUDGE ME. CAN’T GO IN ON ME ABOUT THE BIBLE..CAUSE NOTHING IS LIKE THE BIBLE NOW..THAT’S ALL I MEANT. I DON’T JUDGE ANYBODY!!"
Fantasia was "blown away" at the reaction to her words. Of course, no one was talking about her before this incident and now they are, so I guess she achieved her desired end state.
Was she taken out of context?
Ranting on the internet...in my opinion...isn't always about the attention. I've done it on many occasions on a well known social media site, and it had nothing to do with attention. I think sometimes it's just a good place to vent. Writing is the best form of therapy and some complain on their walls just to get it out. I have plenty of friends and people's shoulders I can cry on, but sometimes when it just hits wrong, I take to my "wall" and empty my thoughts. I'm one of the first peolpe in line to defend LGBT rights, but I honestly didn't see this as some kind of a put down. I can't tell you how many "arguments" I've gotten in with a family member during a chat session just messaging because it IS difficult to get tone from written words. All I'm saying is that maybe there's more to the story.
Going on rants on the Internet seems like attention seeking in every case. If she did not want attention, she could have not typed what she did. It's one thing to say that an interview changes your words or tone - but this was her direct statement. It was not taken out of context, because people received it in its proper context.
I've been taken out of context before and I also know how angry I got and wanted to clear things up and my name. Not all celebrities and artisits go drama queen just for the attention. Maybe you weren't talking about her before but she certainly hadn't been forgotten. You don't know that she was seeking attention..why would you say such an immature remark?
