'HIMYM' reels in Canadian guests for Robin Sparkles episode

For the next great Robin Sparkles-centric episode, "How I Met Your Mother" isn't going to the mall -- it's going to Canada (eh)!

Robin Sparkles

The February 4th episode will feature some of Robin's (Cobie Smulders) Canadian teen idol pals Alan Thicke and James Van Der Beek, in addition to a slew of other natives of the great white north. Thicke was featured in a guest role in a previous "HIMYM" episode, playing himself on Robin Sparkles' kids show, while Van Der Beek played an old flame. Joining them will be Paul Shaffer (band leader on CBS' "Late Show with David Letterman"), Jason Priestley ("Beverly Hills 90210"), singer-songwriter k.d. lang, Barenaked Ladies' frontman Steven Page, "Jeopardy" host Alex Trebek, former NHL star Luc Robitaille, and Geddy freakin' Lee of rock band Rush.

There are no details on what could bring these Canadian superstars together -- a Canadian version of "We Are The World"? Celebrity hockey game? Wishing Robin luck on her pending nuptials to Barney? Regardless, the episodes that have featured Robin's former alter ego have ranked among the best of the series, so it's great to see the "HIMYM" writers go back to that well once again. Now if only we could see the return of the Slap Bet...
