Review: New Girl 2.12, 'Cabin'

The main characters of “New Girl” tried to get messed up this week, to varying results.

New Girl

Jess (Zooey Deschanel) convinces Nick (Jake Johnson) to bring his lady Angie (Olivia Munn) with her and Dr. Sam (David Walton) to a cabin.

Everyone dips into a bottle of absinthe, which brings out their true feelings. Angie tries to kiss Sam, since she said she and Nick are in an open relationship and she thought that Nick had gone upstairs to hook up with Jess. Nick later chugged the absinthe, and revealed he has actual feelings for Angie. At least Munn showed a little life in this episode, since she seemed like an android in previous appearances.

In a fun subplot, Schmidt (Max Greenfield) worries if they are allowing Winston (Lamorne Morris) to be “his blackest self,“ and has a frank race discussion with “White Nick” and “Brown Cece” (Hannah Simone). This led Schmidt to trying to buy crack for Winston in the projects, and a hilarious double- mugging misunderstanding.

Once again, everyone in the world can see Jess and Nick are meant to be. I don’t see either of their relationships lasting long, though I doubt Jess and Nick will actually get together anytime soon.
