The more I hear from Tina Fey and Amy Poehler about the “Golden Globes”, the more excited I become. I do not usually tune in for awards shows very often, but the idea of these two hilarious ladies hosting the night really draws me in and makes me feel like it will truly be a fun night of television.
Ricky Gervais has been hosting the “Golden Globes” for the past two years, which brought on a fair amount of controversy as he was not afraid to poke fun at celebrities who are (maybe) just a tad too sensitive. This year however, “30 Rock’s” Tina Fey and “Parks and Recreation’s” Amy Poehler are teaming up to host the 70th installment of the film and television awards show. Fey and Poehler are long-time friends and co-workers (“SNL”, “Baby Mamma”, and “Mean Girls”) and are promising viewers that this year the “Golden Globes” will be “the sloppiest, best ever”.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have an interesting approach for how they will structure the show. The show is going to be “The sloppiest, best ever.” says Fey. “The defining moment for a generation. But that generation is people who are currently in their nineties. And they’ve seen some stuff, so that’s actually saying more.”
“Tina and I have done a lot of research and we found out that our demo is 90-year-olds and babies. So we’re going to try to shape the show so that both people like it.” Poehler says.
The duo is determined to make the boozy night just as uncomfortable (if not more) for the stars with their hosting style and jokes. Fey and Poehler both feel that they have nothing to lose, and do not be surprised if they go all out. “What might be exciting for us as a comedy paring is, I feel — and forgive me Amy if I’m speaking for you — but I feel like we’re both just, just old enough that we don’t really give a s— anymore.” Tina Fey says. Poehler has the exact same mindset going in. “I will tell you that the good news is, both personally and professionally, I have a large case of the f— its right now. And it’s the perfect time to host something of this magnitude.”
I don’t know about you guys, but I am excited to see exactly what these two have in store for the “Golden Globes”. How do you feel about the pair: Love them or hate them?
