A Scandinavian mystery series is getting all kinds of adaptations.
"Bron/Broen" is currently in production at FX as "The Bridge," starring Demian Bichir ("Weeds"), Diane Kruger ("Inglourious Basterds"), Ted Levine ("Silence of the Lambs") and Annabeth Gish ("Mystic Pizza"). Now it appears Sky Atlantic HD and Canal Plus will team up to produce their own French and English adaptation entitled "The Tunnel."
The series revolves around a serial killer's crime spree as it spans across the borders of two countries, and the joint investigation into the murders that results. While the U.S./FX version will see detectives in the US and Mexico teaming together to stop the killer, "The Tunnel" will instead span the English Channel with the victims in England and France. Said to be a 10-part mini-series, the story will be set primarily in Folkestone and Calais, following detectives Karl Roebuck and Elise Wassermann as they delve into the murder of a French politician and the political motivation behind the series of murders that follow.
Production is already set to begin later this month for broadcast next year. Ben Richards ("Spooks," "Outcasts," "Party Animals") will lead the English and French writing team to bring the story to life. Executive producing for Sky will be Anne Mensah and Fabrice De La Patelliere for Canal Plus.
