Mike Tyson (whose real name is Malik Abdul Aziz, did you know?) is making his official TV acting debut on NBC’s “Law & Order: SVU”, and the role is no joke. Tyson has appeared in films and television roles as himself, including “The Hangover”, “Entourage” and “Breaking In”, but his first major acting gig will require Tyson to play a murderer on death row. The character, Reggie Rhodes, is described as the by-product of an unfortunate upbringing who became an extremely violent individual. The case attracts the attention of Benson and defense attorney Bayard Ellis during an SVU investigation. The episode will also feature Ed Asner as a guest star who will be connected to the investigation.
Of course, Tyson is no rookie when it comes to real life experience in violence and even the criminal system. As everyone knows, Tyson is a retired American professional boxer, but on top of that he spent three years in jail after being convicted of the rape of Desiree Washington in 1992. Tyson plead not guilty to the accusations, but he faced a six year sentence and was released after serving three years. Maybe his time spent in jail will help him to prepare for his “SVU” role.
Do you think Tyson has what it takes to pull off a serious acting role?
