Britney Spears talks 'X Factor' departure

Britney Spears is leaving 'X Factor.' While that news has been speculated about for some time and was announced earlier this week, Spears addressed her departure this afternoon. A rep for the singer said that "Britney did decide, and is in fact not returning to X Factor' for its third season.

Spears added to the statement, saying that, "I've made the very difficult decision not to return for another season. I had an incredible time doing the show and I love the other judges and I am so proud of my teens but it's time for me to get back in the studio," said Spears. Watching them all do their thing up on that stage every week made me miss performing so much! I can't wait to get back out there and do what I love most."

At this time, it is not known (nor have I even really seen any speculation) as to who will fill her shoes. Fellow judge Demi Lovato's status for the third season is still up in the air, as well.

Spears is back in the studio, working on her eighth album. Her last album was 2011's Femme Fatale. It is also rumored that Spears is in "serious talks" to headline in a Las Vegas show.
