Have you ever thought you would make a perfect game show host? Well, now is your chance! The hugely popular ABC game show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” is searching for a new host because Meredith Vieira has decided not to renew her contract. Vieira has hosted the program for the past 11 season and a Disney/ABC Television Group spokesperson said yesterday “It’s the final year of Meredith’s contract. She has chosen to move on and pursue other opportunities.” The same spokesperson also confirmed that Vieira has already finished shooting all of the shows for this season of “Millionaire” which are set to air through the end of May. When the summer hits, repeats will be broadcast while they prepare for a new season in the fall with a new host.
Vieira took over as host of “Millionaire” from Regis Philbin in 2002, of which she was also an executive producer, and has won two Daytime Emmys as Outstanding Game Host for her work on the program. Vieira gave a statement to the New York Times, citing why she made the decision to leave the gig. “It’s been a great 11 years,” she said. “I am about to embark on a new adventure with NBC and I have a digital venture which will be announced shortly. This just seemed like the right time to make the move.” Vieira has been the longest-serving female host of a game show in television history.
Who do you think would make a good replacement for Vieira on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire”?
