The whole 'Real Housewives' series is a ratings juggernaut for Bravo, so it is no surprise that someone else would try to get a cut of the action. In this case, that someone is BET, who debuts its 'Real Husbands of Hollywood' series tonight at 10 p.m.
The Los Angeles Times has reviewed the premiere episode already and says the program is "not so much a parody of the Bravo franchise...it is a kind of (mostly) black 'Curb Your Enthusiasm.' I can certainly get behind that!
The comparison begins with J.B. Smoove, who appears on Larry David's HBO program as "Leon." He is one of the stars of 'RHOH,' along with Kevin Hart, Nick Cannon, Boris Kodjoe, Duane Martin and singer Robin Thicke (the son of Alan Thicke).
According to the article in the Times, the participants in 'RHOH' "play themselves as unremarkable, petty, confused, obsessive, argumentative and rarely bothered with actual work. (Which does pretty much describe the cast of any "Real Housewives" series you might name.)"
Hart plays the straight man in the series, as he narrates the program and is the guy who gets ragged on by the others.
Does this sound like something you would watch? Smoove is the selling point for me. I love his comedic style and will tune in tonight because he appears.
