A face that's familiar to fans of TLC's "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," the titular star's uncle Lee 'Poodle' Thompson, revealed in a recent interview that he is HIV positive.
Thompson made a guest appearance on the hit reality series, visiting the family and leading Honey Boo Boo to tell America, "Ain't nothin' wrong with bein' a little gay. Everybody's a little gay!" Like Chris Rock once said, everyone at least has a gay uncle.
"I was adamant about getting my HIV status checked on a regular basis," he told Fenuxe Magazine in an interview. "On March 16, 2012, I tested negative. Then, in May of 2012, my test results came back positive. I knew it had been my boyfriend who infected me. I later learned he had been HIV-positive and was not taking medication and had not bothered to tell me about it."
Thompson has since pressed charges against the man, now serving a five-year jail sentence for not revealing to his partner that he was HIV positive.
He now hopes to turn a negative into a positive, promoting safe sex and an anti-bullying campaign, as well as looking toward possibly launching his own reality series that would examine what it's like being openly gay in the south. "I want to have my own television show and highlight what it is like being gay in the south. I think I have a good story to tell," he says.
