Nicolas Falacci and Cheryl Heuton, creators of the hit procedural series 'Numb3rs,' are filming a new pilot for USA Network: and it is based on the writing of American legend Elmore Leonard.
The pilot stars Bryan Greenberg ('How to Make it in America,' 'Friends with Benefits'), Kumail Nanjiani ('Franklin & Bash'), Jordi Vilasuso ('All My Children'), John Pankow ('Episodes'), Aisha Hinds ('True Blood') and newcomer Stephanie Sigman.
The project, based on a story from Leonard's anthology collection "When the Women Come Out to Dance," centers on a Miami businessman named Billy (Greenberg) who is contemplating a run for political office and marries a Columbian woman (Sigman) in effort to improve his image with the Columbian population of the city. What begins as a marriage of convenience swiftly proves even more useful, as Billy's new wife Lourdes is innately capable of solving any political problem hurled at his campain by the underhanded dealings of his Miami competition.
Most recently, you may have heard Elmore Leonard's name when reading about the smash hit FX series 'Justified.' The pilot of 'Justified' is based off of a Leonard story entitled "Fire in the Hole" and the character of Raylan Givens (played to perfection by Timothy Olyphant) is a Leonard creation as well. However 'Justified' is merely the cherry on top of an incredible career for the eighty-seven year old Leonard: the writer has had over twenty-six of his novels and short stories adapted either to feature films or television series. Some of these include the Paul Newman vehicle 'Hombre' in 1967, 'Out of Sight' with George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez, the popular Travolta films 'Get Shorty' and its sequel 'Be Cool,' and two different feature adaptations of 'Three-Ten to Yuma.'
In the pilot, Nanjiani will play Alfred Dalton, an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Agent and K-1 Visa Specialist confronted with the job of investigating Billy and Lourdes’ marriage. Vilasuso has been cast as Mario, the youngest District Attorney in Miami history, who just happens to be married to Billy's ex-fiancee.
Pankow has been brought in as Herman, a wealthy Miami real estate developer who is more than willing to bribe his way out of any situation. Herman thinks people like Billy work for him and is not afraid to get his hands dirty.
Finally, Hinds plays Rosie, the senior employee at Fresh Air Cleaners, Billy’s mother’s house cleaning business which he inherited after his mother's death.
At present the pilot remains untitled. Production of the episode is presently underway in Miami, FL.
