On Friday night, FOX's sci-fi series Fringe will come to an end with its two-part series finale, "Liberty" and "An Enemy of Fate." It's going to be a momentous occasion indeed, and hopefully the show will end at the top of its creative game. In the meantime, though, details about the season's upcoming DVD release have started to come to light.
Amazon UK is offering pre-orders for both the fifth season and the complete series DVD and Blu-ray sets, which are slated to go onsale (in the UK at least) on May 20 -- putting a likely US release date on May 21.
That's a long ways off, I know, but let's look at it in this optimistic light: at least it gives Warner Bros Home Video a change to fix this awful cover art, which is just a meaningless smattering of the show's glyphs -- stars Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, and John Noble are nowhere to be seen. And you know what else is disappointing? There doesn't appear to be any effort for the season 5 set to have continuity with the other four seasons -- there isn't even a glowing number on the side.
There's probably good reason to suspect that this incongruity is intentional, due to the fact that the entire series is hitting DVD and Blu-ray on the same day, and my DVD shelf-related OCD is encouraging me to buy that one instead. It's a much more aesthetically pleasing package, though again, it's subject to (and hopefully will) change. Check out the art for the complete series Blu-ray below.
In any case, it looks like we at least have the date that our Fringe DVD/Blu-ray collections will be complete. What do you think?
