Julia Louis-Dreyfus became a household name for her stint on 'Seinfeld' as Elaine Benes. While Jerry Seinfeld has kept rather quiet since that program left the air, Louis-Dreyfus has worked steadily and seen more success than any other cast member, including winning an Emmy Award for her work on 'The New Adventures of Old Christine'.
In her latest starring role, she appears as Selina Meyer, the Vice President of the United States, on HBO's 'Veep.' Armando Iannucci (who was nominated for an Oscar for 'In the Loop') created the series, which features Meyer's day-to-day life, while dealing with the struggles of political office and working under a president who does not always get along spectacularly with his VP.
The political party of Meyer and the president is never revealed; speculation persists that Meyer is loosely based on Sarah Palin.
Critics raved over the first season, especially Louis-Dreyfus' performance. The program was nominated for three Emmy Awards, for Casting for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series - which Louis-Dreyfus won.
The first season of the HBO comedy is scheduled to release on March 26 in the United States. All eight episodes of the season will be included, as well as 12 audio commentaries with Louis-Dreyfus and the other cast members, including Chris Godsick, Frank Rich, Tim Simmons, Anna Chlumsky, Tony Hale and more.
Additional features include a "Veep: Obesity" public service announcement, a "Veep: Misspoke" feature, a collection of outtakes and deleted scenes, a "Making Veep" feature and episodic previews.
Currently it can be purchased on Blu Ray on Amazon for $32.49 or on DVD for $26.99
'Veep' has been renewed for a second season, this one consisting of 10 episodes. An air date has not been announced for it.
