Fathers are being cast throughout all of television today, as James Brolin has signed on to play Rick Castle's mysterious father in an upcoming two-part episode of ABC's 'Castle.'
While the character of Rick Castle (played by fan-favorite Nathan Fillion) grew up not knowing or caring who his estranged father was, his curiosity was piqued last season when it was revealed that the unknown father could have CIA connections. Just like every fatherless child imagines that the reason their dad left is because he's a super-spy, Rick Castle has been given reason to believe this may be true.
Details of Brolin's character remain shrouded in mystery, however an upcoming two-part episode of 'Castle' should shed some light on the man and his circumstances. In the episode, Castle (Fillion) and Beckett (played by Stana Katic of 'The Morning After' and 'Big Sur') team up with an FBI agent to investigate a murder that exposes a plot to kidnap the daughter of a wealthy Middle Eastern businessman. Through a comedy of errors, Castle's involvement in the investigation will put his life in danger. How this situation involves Brolin's character remains to be seen.
James Brolin has been working steadily in film and television since 1960. Some of his most notable television credits include 'Marcus Welby, M.D.,' 'Hotel,' 'Extreme,' and 'Pensacola: Waves of Gold.' This season, he will also play the estranged father of Jeff Winger (played by Joel McHale) on NBC's 'Community.' Along with the news about Andy Richter being cast as Penny's father on 'Happy Endings,' tis the season for the sudden return of a father in our television lives!
The two-part episode of 'Castle' featuring Brolin begins on February 18. 'Castle' airs Mondays at 10:00pm EST on ABC.
