Jonathan Ames and Jason Schwartzman, who previously worked together on the HBO comedy series Bored to Death, are going to team up once again on Pictures of Fidelman, a movie that will feature Schwartzman as Arthur Fidelman, an art student who visits Rome in the 1950s.
The film will be based on Bernard Malamud's collection of short stories - specifically "Still Life" and "Naked Nude."
Bored to Death might still have some life left, according to Ames. The team is trying to reunite - including Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis - for a television movie. Ames is working on the script and when it is completed, will take it to HBO.
"HBO has always been very good to me," he says, "and I had a meeting with them and said: 'I think this would be a fun thing to try. I had so many ideas for season four, so many interesting images, can I have a shot at maybe making a movie or writing a movie?' And they’ve always been good to me, and they said yes."
HBO moved Bored to Death in its final season from Sunday to Monday night. The ratings fell, as Monday is usually not a strong night for the network.
I did not love Bored to Death, but I dig Schwartzman’s work with Wes Anderson.
