Fox is in the mood for some drama. The network has ordered its fifth drama over the last month, this time giving a pilot order to one from John Wells, the showrunner of Shameless.
This drama is called Boomerang (no, it is not based on the Eddie Murphy movie, unfortunately) and will focus on a unique family business - in this case, assassination. The family in this series works for the American government by carrying out hits that are ordered, executing enemies of the state.
Davey Holmes (Shameless, Awake, Pushing Daisies, The Chicago Code) is writing the script. Holmes will executive produce the project with Wells and Andrew Stearn.
Not a whole lot is known about the series at this point. A show dealing with the day-to-day lives of assassins could be really cool - but the family aspect raises a red flag with me. That seems to have the potential to get campy really fast. I hope I understand the information wrong and the family aspect gets skirted.
Other dramas ordered by Fox recently include Delirium, The List, Rake and Sleepy Hollow. Do any of these dramas appeal to you? I generally ignore network offerings, preferring dramas from HBO and Showtime instead.
