For the second straight Thursday, CBS took the night off, letting FOX ride American Idol to an easy victory in both demos and total viewers. It will be interesting to see what happens next week, when the new AI has to compete with heavyweights like The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men.
Speaking of Idol, it fell four tenths from last Thursday, but still crushed everything else by a very large margin. In fact, AI came in over 60% higher in the demos than anything else. Glee rode the Idol wave to a healthy 35% increase in the key demos. The series finale of ABC's Last Resort rose 20% from its penultimate outing, while Grey's Anatomy matched last week.
NBC had a mixed bag of a night, with 30 Rock rising one tenth, followed by Parks & Rec falling by two tenths. The Office also fell one tenth, while 1600 Penn went up a bit in its third week. That's great news for "Penn", as dropping for the third straight week might have seen the cancellation axe draw ever closer. Rock Center hit a season low at 10pm. The CW held up pretty well, with The Vampire Diaries dropping only a smidge, and Beauty and the Beast returning to a 17% increase.
