'Spy' adaptation ordered to pilot by ABC

I spy with my little eye another American adaptation of a British series. ABC has granted a pilot order to a project based on a hot comedy from the United Kingdom entitled Spy.

The single-camera comedy follows a caring and well-meaning father who inadvertently ends up working for the Secret Service while trying to prove himself a worthy dad. His son is a highly intelligent and precocious boy who also happens to be his complete opposite.

Simeon Goulden, creator of the original UK series, wrote the script for the American version and serves as an executive producer along with Jimmy Mulville and Helen Williams of Hat Trick Productions.

Jude Wright and Darren BoydThe original series starred Darren Boyd and newcomer Jude Wright and premiered on Sky1 in 2011 with a successful six-episode run. The British broadcaster was so pleased that it increased Spy's second-season order to a whopping 10 episodes and a Christmas special. The series is also a top performer on Hulu.

I have no idea if he wants to return to a regular role on TV, but my first thought was Steve Carell. Lest we forget The Office was a British adaptation, and this part seems like a good fit for him. If they're casting younger, let me nominate Nat Faxon from the recently cancelled Ben and Kate.

Who would you cast in ABC's Spy?

- Simeon Goulden
- Jimmy Mulville
- Helen Williams
