NBC orders modern-day "Hatfields & McCoys" pilot from Charlize Theron

Actress Charlize Theron

After the History mini-series “Hatfields & McCoys” broke basic cable ratings and became a huge hit for the channel (bringing in more than 14 million viewers in May), NBC has decided they want a piece of the action and success. A pilot has been ordered to create a modern day version of “Hatfields & McCoys”, and it will come from the minds of actress Charlize Theron (who will produce) and series creator John Glenn. The modern version will be set in the present day city of Pittsburgh.

Long after the original feud is laid to rest, an unexpected death will cause the less than friendly Hatfields and McCoys to reignite their battle and unleash decade’s worth of resentment. The rich and powerful Hatfield’s fortune and influence will be put to the test by the blue collar McCoys in a battle for control of the city. ABC Studios has inked the deal with Theron’s Denver And Delilah Prods along with Dawn Parouse Olmstead and Beau Flynn co-producing.

The NBC pilot may have a bit of competition thrown their way, as this is not the only “Hatfields & McCoys” series that is being developed. History is taking the success of the mini-series and turning it into a reality series that will follow the real lifedescendants of the Hatfields and McCoys.

I wonder how the real life descendants stack up against the big NBC portrayals?
