Are you ready for one last legen...wait for it...dary season?
CBS thinks you are. It has ended months of rumor by announcing that How I Met Your Mother will return one more time, as it will air the ninth and final season during the 2013-2014 broadcast season.
We had better finally find out who the mother is! Poor Ted's (Josh Radnor/voice in older version by Bob Saget) children have been listening to this story for a long time now. The series began in 2005, for pete's sake!
All five series regulars (Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan and Radnor) have signed for the season, after a lot of speculation that Segel and Hannigan were ready to move on with their lives.
"Through eight years, How I Met Your Mother has mastered the art of leading-edge comedy, emotional water-cooler moments and pop culture catchphrases,” said CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler. “We are excited for Carter (Bays), Craig (Thomas), Pam Fryman and this amazing cast to tell the final chapter and reveal television’s most mysterious mother to some of TV’s most passionate fans.”
"We‘re thrilled to have the entire and incredibly talented How I Met Your Mother cast back for one final season to bring the series to a proper close,” said 20th Century Fox Television chairmen Dana Walden and Gary Newman in a statement. “Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are masterful and hilarious storytellers, and we have no doubt that they will guide one of the greatest comedies of the last decade to a gratifying conclusion when they finally reveal the identity of the mother."

Regarding Segel and Hannigan signing, after 8 years what's *one* more, even if you *are* ready to move on, when you know it's going to be the last one? If they'd left a year or two ago, that'd be one thing, but to leave when there's only one year left would be pretty pathetic.
