In news that had to be considered a foregone conclusion since its strong debut, Katie Couric's freshman daytime talk show has been renewed for a second season.
Among a crowd of new talk shows from hosts ranging from Ricki Lake to Steve Harvey, "Katie" outperformed all, recently taking its 19th straight week at the top of the ratings. The program brings in an average 1.9 rating with 2.5 million viewers, with the recent first on-camera interview with Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o drawing one of its largest ratings ever since its debut.
"Hosting, producing and launching a show from scratch has been challenging but very rewarding," said Couric. "I'm looking forward to working with our terrific team to build on the success of our first season and continuing to share compelling stories, explore important topics, and create entertaining television for our audience."
"'Katie' is the number one new syndicated talk show of the 2012-2013 season and we are thrilled to announce a green light for season two," said Disney-ABC Domestic Television President Janice Marinelli. "Katie is an immensely talented host who has an incomparable ability to connect with her viewers. We also have outstanding station partners and time periods and look forward to continued success with 'Katie' this year and into season two."
