Despite stories that take place in different time periods and different settings, the "American Horror Story" series has seen a number of actors return for regular or recurring roles.

The upcoming third season appears to be no different. In addition to returning faces Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, and Evan Peters, the latest cast member to sign on to take part in all three seasons is Lily Rabe.
"So thrilled to announce Lily Rabe is onboard for American Horror Story Season Three! So talented, love her!" wrote series co-creator Ryan Murphy on Twitter.
The actress had a small role playing a ghost in the series' first season, but took on the larger role of demonically possessed nun Sister Mary Eunice in this year's "American Horror Story: Asylum." The returns of proven cast members at the very least ensures fans will get consistent performances from season to season, even if the stories and subject matters tackled are very different.
Murphy has been tight-lipped about what's in store for the cast members with the upcoming season, but did drop some hints in January after a screening of the "Asylum" finale. "What season three is about is more historical in nature," he teased. "I'm also interested in getting into a horror romance. That's certainly something that's going to be in the water for season three."
