Veteran actor John Corbett has been cast in the lead role on CBS' new potential NCIS: Los Angeles spinoff.
The actor, who recently has appeared on Parenthood and the United States of Tara, will play the lead roll on NCIS: Red, which focuses on a mobile squad of agents that live and work together while traveling the country trying to solve crimes. So basically its a modern-day Scooby Doo.
Corbett will play Roy Quaid, a former NCIS special agent who forced into retirement but becomes an analyst for the department. He is the most experienced investigator on the Red Team, which leads to some tensions with other agents.
The series will launch via a back-door pilot on a spring episode of NCIS: LA.
NCIS: LA's Miguel Ferrer will play his role in the spinoff as NCIS assistant director Owen Granger. Edwin Hodge from Red Dawn will play Special Agent Kai, a sheltered computer expert and transport coordinator from South Central L.A.
Corbett has appeared in Sex and the City and My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Last fall he appeared in CBS' cop drama pilot Widow Detective, from CSI's Carol Medelsohn. It did not move foward.
