Have you ever wished there was an Access Hollywood-style look at HBO's fantasy drama Game of Thrones? Probably not. But don't worry -- Winter-Is-Coming.net is here to answer the prayers you never knew you had by launching a new webseries that essentially serves as a dose of all Westeros-related news.
It's called The Daily Raven, and it's hosted by fan Simone Boyce, who delivers news on behind-the-scenes details of season two with congenial snark (and she's wearing a Firefly t-shirt!). "Step aside, winter," she says, introducing the episode. "The Daily Raven is here."
Despite its title, the show is described as being "not quite daily," an understandable decision considering that the flow of Game of Thrones news, while steadily increasing, isn't quite coming out at a daily rate. The show's first episode, running at about five-and-a-half minutes, discusses the production videos and photos released in promotion for the show's upcoming season.
The best part of the web show's first episode is the poem Simone recites to the characters who died in the show's first season. Following the accompanying slideshow of the deceased, the camera cuts back to Simone, holding a drinking horn that wouldn't be out of place in Westeros. "Rest in peace, homies," she says with a hint of irony, and pours a bit of mead out for the fallen. It's scenes like these that prevent the show from taking itself too seriously and becoming just another nerd-fest (although there's nothing wrong with that).
The show also intends to field questions from fans in the future as part of an upcoming question-and-answer feature.
"I already feel a certain loyalty to the Daily Raven," wrote one commenter on the site. And you know what? So do we.
