This season of Fox's "New Girl" has introduced viewers to several of the offbeat roommate's equally eccentric family members. According to Entertainment Weekly, the trend will continue later this season as Emmy winning actress Margo Martindale guest stars in a future episode as the mother of Nick Miller (Jake Johnson).
Viewers have already met Nick's father, a career con man and fair-weather dad played by Dennis Farina ("Law & Order"), so it will be interesting to see the other parent responsible for Miller's unique blend of self-loathing and misanthropy. Well, we get to find out soon enough, when the roommates take a road trip to Nick's hometown of Chicago (also the hometown of Julius Pepperwood, former cop and Marine who hates thin crust pizza with a passion) in an upcoming March episode. In the Windy City, the friends will be surprised to learn that, compared to the rest of his family, Nick is actually the most sane and responsible one.
Mrs. Miller is described as extremely emotional and quite stubborn. Worst of all, she doesn't take well to Jess (Zooey Deschanel)'s flighty personality. If the two are pursuing a relationship at that point, at least one member of the Miller clan will likely not approve.
Martindale is a veteran of the small screen and features, but rose to acclaim and wider notoriety as the death dealing matriarch of the Bennett family on FX's "Justified", taking home the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She currently holds a recurring role on the spy drama "The Americans" on the cable network.
