CBS has landed a two-time Oscar nominee to headline its new comedy series The McCarthys.
Jacki Weaver, who is nominated this year for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her work as Dolores Solitano in Silver Linings Playbook, will play the mother of the McCarthy clan. The family is a sports-obsessed Boston family who are very vocal about their love. Does that mean that viewers are going to have the Celtics, Patriots, Red Sox and Bruins beaten into their heads?
Weaver's character, Marjorie, is a very caring mother who does whatever she can for her family, but does so without a filter. She is crass and tired from keeping up with her family. Her husband, Arthur, will be played by Rescue Me's Jack McGee. Arthur and his sons also apparently coach basketball.
The role has some similarities to her role in Silver Linings Playbook and would mark Weaver's first small-screen regular role if it advances past pilot.
The show is a single-camera comedy and is being developed by Are You There, Chelsea? writer Brian Gallivan, as executive produced by Will Gluck and Richie Schwartz.
Weaver also was nominated in 2010 for a Best Supporting Actress for her work in Animal Kingdom.
Does this sound like a series you would watch?
