IFC's 'Comedy Bang! Bang!' renewed for second season
In news that perhaps only I will care about, IFC announced this morning that they have officially renewed Scott Aukerman's surrealist talk show "Comedy Bang! Bang!" for a second season.
The series, based on the hugely successful podcast of the same name, debuted during the summer of last year, with host Aukerman and bandleader Reggie Watts bringing their cadre of comedy peers -- including Zach Galifianakis, Nick Kroll, Michael Cera, Jon Hamm, and Paul Rudd -- along with their insane characters to the small screen.
Even better news for fans of the show: the cable network is doubling down on the episode order this time around, with the sophomore season set to be split into two 10-episode arcs.
"'Comedy Bang! Bang!' perfectly embodies the type of sharp, smart comedy space IFC inhabits,” said IFC's SVP of programming Debbie DeMontreux. "Scott and Reggie are comedic geniuses and we couldn’t be happier that their television home is on IFC. The A-list roster of guest stars the show brought to IFC in season one, coupled with the popularity of the series amongst comedy fans makes it a great addition to our ‘slightly off’ line-up."
For those unfamiliar with the series, I would highly recommend checking out the (free!) podcast on iTunes. As good as the television series was, the podcast is one of the most unique, irreverent, hilarious, must-listen shows out there, something that fans of "Mr. Show," "Kids In The Hall," "Upright Citizens Brigade," and other similarly absurd comedy series should take to. The series features Aukerman interviewing a guest, inevitably interrupted by a comedian portraying characters ranging from Gary Busey to Cake Boss to Don DiMello. And now I give you a personal favorite... Bill Cosby's Fart Machine.
