The CW has cast their lead in the upcoming historical drama pilot 'Reign.' Adelaide Kane ('Teen Wolf,' 'Power Rangers: R.P.M.') has been cast as Mary Queen of Scots, the woman birthed in 1543 into the responsibility of uniting Scotland and England through royal marriage. The problem? Well the French monarchy also wanted Mary to unite Scotland and France through royal marriage as well...
Kane has landed the coveted lead role in what is by far the biggest role of her young career. Born in Western Australia in 1990, Kane has been acting since she was six years old and has already amassed an impressive array of roles; still, the lead in a CW pilot is a larger boon than any preceding. Kane is slated as a recurring character on the upcoming third season of 'Teen Wolf.'
'Reign' chronicles the rise to power of Mary Queen of Scots (Kane) when she arrives in France as a 15-year-old, betrothed to Prince Francis, and with her three best friends as ladies-in-waiting. It details the secret history of survival at French Court amidst fierce foes, dark forces, and a world of sexual intrigue.
As history buffs well know, the life of Mary Queen of Scots is one surrounded by turmoil, combat and broken alliances. CW seems to have found the perfect character through which they can retain their characteristic teen drama and explore an intriguing facet of history at the same time.
As you can see from the portrait to the left, CW wasn't very concerned about likeness when it came to their casting. Still, Kane seems to fit the mould of sultry, desirable young starlet--now the producers of 'Reign' get to add a regal flair to that ensemble.
Brad Silberling ('Lemoney Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events') is directing the pilot for 'Reign.'
