According to preliminary Nielsen numbers, last night's Justin Bieber-infused edition of Saturday Night Live dropped 4% from the latest new episode that aired January 26, hosted by The Voice's Adam Levine.
The long-running NBC late-night sketch show averaged a 4.9 rating with a 12 share in the metered-market households. The 25 markets with Local People Meters also reported a 4% slide from the January 26 broadcast, with SNL registering a 2.7/12 in the key demographic of Adults 18–49.
The ratings for the episode hosted by Adam Levine held steady with the previous new episodes — January 19 with Jennifer Lawrence and December 15 with Martin Short — so this week's aberration indicates that not everyone is afflicted with Bieber fever.
While in-character as the world's biggest Miley Cyrus fan during a sketch with Vanessa Bayer in the role of Miley, Bieber commented on the recently released photos of him smoking marijuana. When the subject came up, he noted, "I also heard he got busted smoking weed, and people make mistakes and he's really sorry about it and he's never going to do it again." Sure, sure.
Honestly, as a person who normally bristles at the very sight of Justin Bieber, I have to admit he fared better than expected. Not that the bar was set high, mind you, but at least he seemed present unlike many hosts on SNL.
