'House of Cards' now Netflix's most- watched streaming title

Netflix’s new original drama is now its most- watched streaming title.

Ted Sarandos

However, Ted Sarandos, the streaming service’s chief contest officer, said Tuesday he had “no motivation” to share the actual numbers, since episodes stream without commercials.

"This show is built to be watched in multiple episode settings,” Sarandos said. “For every show from HBO to FX, viewers may not have seen the previous episode so they try to fill in blanks. We don't need to spend time on exposition."

Netflix paid $100 million for a couple of seasons of “House of Cards,” which stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright.

The first 13 episodes of the series were made available to Netflix subscribers for streaming Feb. 1. Viewers who sample the show generally watch more than one episode.

The first episode of the series was made available to non- subscribers Feb. 1.

A spokesman for the company told The Hollywood Reporter that some films are more popular on Netflix, but that “House of Cards” is the most popular TV title available for streaming.

It remains to be seen if “House of Cards” will still be the most watched show when “Arrested Development” debuts new episodes in May.
