We're just over a month away from the second season premiere of Game of Thrones, but HBO is already rolling out loads of promotional material. Monday saw the release of a new behind-the-scenes set video, featuring interviews with showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, production designer Gemma Jackson, and cast members Gethin Anthony, Lena Headey, Richard Madden, Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, and Peter Dinklage.
The promo gave us new glimpses at new characters in season two, such as Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham), Lady Melisandre (Carice van Houten), Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer), and Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane). Perhaps most interesting, though, was not the reveal of a person, but rather the reveal of a certain item. I'm talking about the green, glowing vial that Tyrion picks up in the final moments of the video. Wondering what that is? All I'll tell you is that it's something called Wildfire, and that it's very, very important in the climactic battle of the second season (which will happen in the penultimate episode "Blackwater").
The cast members had nothing but good things to say about returning to the set of the show. "It's so awesome to be back on the big sets," Headey shared. "...Not awesome wearing corsets."
Much ado was made about the show's new locations that would be introduced in the second season. "It's expanded even more," Harington shared. "It's even bigger in scale."
"We're journeying to all new locations," shared executive producer Benioff. "So whenever possible we love to get it all on camera... [production designer] Gemma [Jackson] had just as much to do this year as she did last year. Maybe more."
So what's the last word? "I think season one is topped by season two," stated star Peter Dinklage. I, for one, believe him. Watch the video for yourself here.
Game of Thrones season 2 will premiere on April 1 with the premiere episode "The North Remembers."
