A year after his last pilot fell through, Jason Ritter is getting back on the horse and trying again.
The actor, who appears on Parenthood, has landed the starring role in Fox's Friends and Family comedy, which is being adapted from the BBC's Gavin & Stacey series. Friends and Family looks at how those groups can be the best support in time of need, as well as the worst thing in some scenarios.
The series focuses on two loves - Gavin (Ritter) and Stacey - who try to work out a long distance relationship. The duo (who work together via computer) become friends through Facebook and Twitter and try to make things work despite their differences. Gavin in neurotic and witty, while Stacey is a simple girl from rural Pennsylvania.
The series will be shot with a single camera and executive produced by David Rosen, Steve Coogan, Jane Tranter, James Corden, Julie Gardner, Henry Normal and Ruth Jones. Rosen will also be writing the pilot.
Ritter has also appeared on NBC's Event and CBS' The Class. His role on Parenthood has shrunk, as his on-screen relationship with Sarah Braverman (Lauren Graham) is in limbo following last season's finale.
The track record with British series being adapted stateside is spotty, at best. Do you think this series can make it?
