TV Characters Favorite Foods and Drinks

The more we watch a show, the more we notice the habits of our favorite characters. From their choices of clothing to their choices of music to their choices of movies, these “addictions” make us love our TV shows even more. To add to that love, here are 10 TV characters and their favorite foods and/or drinks.

1. Dean Loves PieJensen Ackles as Dean Winchester on Supernatural
If you’re a fan of “Supernatural,” then you know Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) loves pie. As he says, “Dude, where’s the pie?!” Unlike his brother Sam (Jared Padalecki) who loves salads and healthy food, Dean survives off of burgers, french fries, subs, fast food, beer and of course pie. After a long day of hunting supernatural beings, Dean has a hearty appetite. It’s amazing he stays in shape, but I guess all of the running around compensates for the bad eating and drinking.

2. Abby Loves Caf Pow
Pauley Perrette as Abby Sciuto on NCIS
Forensic scientist Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette) can’t get through the work day without her famous Caf Pow. What is this beverage? It’s a caffeinated, red, fruity, energy drink, which is featured in every episode of “NCIS.” Thanks to Gibbs (Mark Harmon), Abby never has to buy her own, because he does it for her. Once, she tried to cut out caffeine, but that didn’t last long. Her Caf Pow is still officially part of her everyday life.

3. Lorelai Loves Junk Food
Lauren Graham as Lorelai Gilmore on Gilmore Girls
Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) goes hand-in-hand with junk food. One of the leading ladies from “Gilmore Girls” was known for her love of pizza, Chinese food, donuts, bagels, cookies, cakes, munchies, etc. I could go on for pages. Lorelai wasn’t one to shy away from declaring her love of junk. Oh, yeah, she also loved, loved, loved coffee. Her eating habits were also passed down to daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel). These two had the biggest stomachs ever, and could eat several meals in a row.

4. Brenda Loves Chocolate
Kyra Sedgwick as Brenda Leigh Johnson on The Closer
Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick) from TNT’s “The Closer” was one of those women who stress and grief ate. When she was under large amounts of stress, which anyone would be when it comes to fighting crime, Brenda would sneak a chocolate snack hidden in her desk drawer. For example, one staple was chocolate-covered cream-filled snacks aka Ding Dongs definitely satisfied Brenda’s stress and put a smile on her face.

5. Joey Loves Sandwiches
Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani on Friends
One thing everyone should know about Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc) from “Friends” is that “Joey doesn’t share food!” Out of his five friends, Joey was the one who could eat and eat and eat, especially sandwiches - his favorite food. Remember that episode where Joey, Chandler (Matthew Perry) and Ross (David Schwimmer) went on a stakeout? When they heard gunshots - it was really a car backfire - Joey lunged to protect his favorite meatball sub sandwich. Yes, that’s how much he loved sandwiches.

6. Patrick Loves Tea
Simon Baker as Patrick Jane on The Mentalist
Coffee, tea or milk? For Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) from “The Mentalist” he prefers tea. In every episode, he can be seen sitting on the couch relaxing with a cup of tea in that famous blue tea cup. Jane is not one to shy away from helping himself. When he goes to a crime scene, or to interview a family, he heads straight for the kitchen and brews himself a cup of hot tea.

7. Gibbs Loves Coffee
Mark Harmon as Gibbs on NCIS
Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) from “NCIS” has coffee running through his veins. Since day one of Season 1, Gibbs has been seen with a coffee cup in hand. He doesn’t drink the cheap stuff either. Gibbs prefers the best. His team also knows to never touch his caffeine swill, or they are in trouble. As Gibbs says, “Rule #23: Never mess with a marine’s coffee if you want to live.”

8. Niles and Frasier Love Sherry
Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce as Frasier and Niles Crane
No, Sherry isn’t a woman’s name. “Frasier” brothers Niles (David Hyde Pierce) and Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) Crane were passionate about their Sherry - a wine. In Frasier’s Seattle apartment, the two were repeatedly shown pouring a small glass of Sherry from the decanter. Maybe Frasier got his taste for alcohol from when he starred on “Cheers”?

9. Blanche, Dorothy, Rose and Sophia Love Cheesecake
The Golden Girls
What do Blanche (Rue McClanahan), Dorothy (Bea Arthur), Rose (Betty White) and Sophia (Estelle Getty) all have in common? Besides being the cast of “The Golden Girls,” these women loved cheesecake. This was their go-to dessert. If they couldn’t sleep, or if they were up late talking, they pulled out the cheesecake and indulged in the creamy sweet.

10. Laverne Loves Milk and Pepsi
Penny Marshall as Laverne Defazio on Laverne & Shirley
“Laverne & Shirley” is a classic. What’s also a classic is Laverne’s (Penny Marshall) inspired drink, milk and Pepsi. She and roommate/best friend Shirley (Cindy Williams) loved this drink, but it was definitely labeled as Laverne’s drink. Fun fact: Marshall drank milk and Pepsi all the time, outside of filming, so she incorporated it into her role.

It’s funny how these foods and drinks make these characters who they are. We probably would love them a little less if they didn’t indulge obsessively over sweets, coffee, junk and so on. Oh, and if you really want to become one with your favorite character, some products are sold relating to these eating and drinking habits. FYI...I have a “NCIS” coffee cup that has Rule #23 printed on it.

Just reading this now... what a unique idea for a column. Love it. Milk and Pepsi, though? Gross!

I thought this was a really great article. It was both an intriguing concept and well-written.
