A “Savages” star will do the same in a J.J. Abrams drama pilot.

Jake McLaughlin has signed on for “Believe,” also from Alfonso Cuarón, an Oscar- nominated filmmaker. Cuarón will direct the pilot.
Cuarón and Mark Friedman wrote the high- concept project, which is about an unlikely relationship between a girl possessing a great gift/ powers named Bo, and Tate (played by McLaughlin).
Bo’s powers will come into their own in seven years. Tate was sprung from prison to protect Bo from those who are trying to hunt her down.
The role of Bo has not yet been cast as of this writing.
Cuarón (“Children of Men,” “Y Tu Mama Tambien.”), Friedman, Abrams and Bryan Burk will executive produce.
Abrams (“Alias,” “Star Trek”) is also developing another drama pilot at Fox with “Fringe” showrunner Joel Wyman, a sci- fi cop thriller.
McLaughlin also had cameos in other Abrams films “Cloverfield” and “Super 8.” He has also appeared in the feature “Warrior,” and on the TV series “Crash.” This is actually his second consecutive drama pilot at NBC. He co- starred in “The Frontier” last year.
McLaughlin is represented by Paradigm and James/ Levy Management.
