Madeline Carroll, who played Jim Carrey's daughter in Mr. Popper's Penguins, has been tapped to star in The CW's drama pilot Blink as the daughter of a man in a coma.
Described as a warm and quirky drama with humorous elements, Blink centers on a family whose lives are forever changed — for better and for worse — when the patriarch is afflicted with a "coma-like syndrome" following a car accident. He cannot speak or move, but he can see and hear everything around him. From within his mind, the father provides narration and fantasy sequences that serve as a wry counterpoint to the stories and conflicts of the family and his own situation.
Carroll, a 16-year-old actress who has appeared in several films as well as NCIS and Cold Case, will portray the angsty teen daughter, named Ari. She is an old soul who is having a difficult time dealing with her father's accident and spends most of her time sitting with him at the hospital.
Blink is executive produced by David Marshall Grant (Smash) and written by Vera Herbert, who sold the script on spec. She has previously penned a handful of shorts, including ZomRomCom: The Musical, and an episode of MTV's Awkward.
