The David E. Kelley CBS comedy pilot “Crazy Ones” has cast their lead female to star opposite of comedy legend Robin Williams. The role was landed by “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” star Sarah Michelle Gellar. Gellar will play the role of Sydney Roberts, a very passionate and ambitious woman working as creative director at an ad agency with her father Simon Roberts (Robin Williams). Simon is the head of the ad agency, and the single-cam comedy will follow their relationship working together and at home dynamics. “Crazy Ones” will be written and executive produced by Kelley and directed and executive produced by Jason Winer.
Gellar was last working with CBS on the short lived single season drama “Ringer” in 2011-2012, which had been heralded as her official post-Buffy return to television. “Ringer” was originally made for CBS but was picked up by its sister channel The CW in May 2011. Her role in “Crazy Ones” will signal her very first live action comedy role on television. Gellar has also done some voice work for “The Simpsons”, “Robot Chicken” and “American Dad”.
“Crazy Ones” will mark Williams first television role (minus some guest appearances) since “Mork & Mindy” went off the air in 1982.
