Clive Davis, a legendary figure in the music industry, opens up on today's Katie to host Katie Couric about his sexuality. Davis is the man who discovered Janis Joplin, Bruce Springsteen, Barry Manilow, Santana, Whitney Houston, and many more.
Davis tells Couric that he is bi-sexual during the interview, which he says he realized after a failed marriage that ended in the mid '80s.
“I opened myself up to the possibility that I could have a relationship with a man as well as the two that I had with a woman," he said. “I'm still attracted to women. … You don't have to be only one thing or another. For me, it's the person.”
Davis is 80 years old now and revealed this information as part of his marketing pitch for his new book, "The Soundtrack of My Life," which releases today. The book follows him from his Brooklyn-based childhood and looks at how he helped shape popular music for more than half a decade.
During the interview, he reveals that he is "in a monogamous relationship," but does not further discuss details.
His three sons (Fred, Mitch and Doug) all work in the music industry as well.
Bravo to him for feeling comfortable enough in his position in life to reveal this information.
Katie is in syndication.
