“My Name Is Earl” alum Jason Lee is all set to play the lead in the CBS drama pilot, “Second Sight”. This will be Lee’s first starring role in a television series since his role on the TNT drama “Memphis Beat” in 2010. Hailing from Michael Cuesta and Carol Mendelsohn, “Second Sight” is based off of the 2000 British series of the same name.
Described as a “gothic psychological thriller”, the series surrounds the events in the life of Tanner (played by Lee). Tanner is the lead detective at the New Orleans Police Department and he has some secrets to hide – namely, that he struggles with hallucinations and anxiety. Tanner has an ocular disorder which causes him to have visually startling anxiety dreams and hallucinations, but has been assured by his doctor that he will not go blind. This does not come as much of a consolation and Tanner’s “gift” can often get in the way.
In the British series, the role of Tanner was played by actor Clive Owen, who has starred in films such as “Sin City” and “Children of Men”.
The pilot will be directed by Cuesta, which he has adapted from a script which his brother Gerald Cuesta wrote. Executive producers include Michael Cuesta, Mendelsohn, Julie Weitz, Paula Milne and Nick Reed.
