Sophomore FOX comedy Raising Hope has just landed a big casting get that will be sure to provide them with a ratings boost, if only for the particular episode she appears in. Entertainment Weekly has just learned that incredibly popular singer and multiple time Grammy nominee Katy Perry has signed on to guest star in the episode set to air on March 6th entitled "Single White Female".
Series creator Greg Garcia reached out to Perry after learning that the top-selling recording artist was close friends with cast member Shannon Woodward. Garcia offered this obviously tongue in cheek recounting of how many Katy was brought on board: "Shannon told me that her friend Katy was interested in doing an episode and I thought, why not? Let’s do your friend Katy a favor. Then she came in and did a terrific job. And now people are telling me that Katy is also a singer. I sincerely hope that her appearance on the show helps her get her singing career off the ground.”
The episode's plot line concerns Sabrina getting arrested after participating in a local Occupy protest and being sentenced to two weeks in jail. Inside she meets Perry's character "Rikki" and I would assume hilarity ensues or something to that effect. This really could generate the kind of buzz the show needs to ensure itself a third season. Greg Garcia has to be thanking his deity of choice that one of the main cast had close ties to such a big star. Time will tell how Perry acclimates herself, but she did do pretty well by most accounts with her SNL hosting gig. No word on whether she will kiss a girl and/or like it during the episode in question.
Does Perry's casting make you want to check out Raising Hope? Do you already like the show and think this is a mistake? Or are you just Hot & Cold about the whole thing? (Sorry.)
