Tyler Perry and the OWN cannot get enough of one another.
Already the actor/director/creator/screenwriter/ (pause for breath) playwriter/producer/author/songwriter/probably tons of other things had a deal with the network to bring exclusive properties to it. Now they have extended their relationship, heading to second base - which in this case is acquiring the rights to his For Better or Worse from CBS.
THe deal will bring the first 45 episodes of the series over, as well as starting up a third season. The show is a hit, ranked as basic cable's top series among African-Americans. All original cast members - Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Crystle Stewart, Kent Faulcon, Kiki Haynes and Jason Olive - are coming back. Filming will begin soon in Atlanta.
"For Better or Worse is a great addition to our growing lineup of scripted programming from Tyler,” OWN president Erik Logan said. “We’re excited to build out OWN’s slate of original shows.”
Two other series from Perry are beginning at the network - The Haves and the Have Nots, and Love Thy Neighbor.
Perry had worked exclusively with TBS, but it seems all his future efforts - for now - will be under Oprah's umbrella.
