“America’s Got Talent” is swapping one Brit out for another for their new season. NBC has confirmed that the judge’s panel on the reality show will be welcoming “Spice Girl” Mel B as the replacement judge for Sharon Osbourne. Osbourne announced that she was going to leave the show last September after weeks of rumours about her departure.
The series begins taping season eight on March 4th in New Orleans, where Mel B will be sitting on the judge’s panel. This is not the first judging gig for Mel B, who was a judge on the Australian version of “The X Factor” and guest hosted on the original UK version.
Other judges Howie Mandel and Howard Stern have signed up again for another season “America’s Got Talent”, making it Stern’s second season on the series and Mandel’s fourth. Word is that NBC president of alternative programming Paul Telegdy is considering one more casting addition. NBC is considering adding a fourth judge to the show for the first time in U.S. history, but Telegdy says that it is not 100% certain. “The right person has to show their hand.” he says.
Telegdy absolutely feels that Mel B will be a great addition to the show. “I’ve known Melanie since she did Dancing with the Stars, and I’ve known her as a performer in The Spice Girls before that. To know her is to know a very frank, strong, enduring entertainer. Someone who has a very strong point of view. We needed somebody who was qualified for the job. She’s an amazing singer, dancer and a huge personality. The contestants will get a lot of constructive feedback from her and I can’t wait to see her chemistry with Howard and Howie.”
I expect more than a few “Scary Spice” references, and if the Spice Girls don’t do a reunion performance on the show I will be sorely disappointed.
