As you have probably heard a few times in your life, it is a really bad idea to judge a book by its cover.
Take Martha Heredia, for example. In 2009, the pretty Heredia won Latin American Idol in Argentina and seemed destined for stardom.
And then, the wheels came off.
The singer has since come into conflict with the show, saying that it was a fraud and that was promised international tours after winning, which never came to be.
Life has been tough for Heredia since winning, as she has had legal troubles including a lawsuit against her husband, singer Vakero, for abusing her physically and psychologically. "I’m tired of taking in the beating and the insults, and the justice here is no good because they were paid off to leave while I was being abused," she Tweeted at the time.
Additionally, in 2010 she was involved in a car accident that claimed the life of a 16-year-old Haitian boy. Heredia was then sued by the boy's family.
Last night, her life took a drastic turn for the worse as she was arrested in at the Cibao International Airport in Santiago in the Dominican Republic. Heredia had a reporter 1.8 kg of heroin hidden inside the heels of her shoes and other clothing she was carrying with her. The 22-year-old singer was trying to fly to New York City when the arrest was made.
"Mrs. Heredia is being transferred to the headquarters of the National Drug Control Office in Santo Domingo for questioning, before she is returned to Santiago so the local district attorney’s office can file charges against her," the drug agency's spokesman Roberto Lebrón said.
