Continuing the trend of feature film actors migrating to television, Daniel Stern has been tapped to play the father of the titular character in the NBC single-camera comedy pilot Girlfriend in a Coma.
Best known to an entire generation as the bumbling criminal Marv in 1990's Home Alone, Stern will play Tom McNeil, a well-respected electrician. While his daughter is in a coma for several years, Tom and his wife have been responsible for raising their granddaughter.
In addition to his work in movies like Diner, City Slickers, and Home Alone, Stern provided the narration of grown-up Kevin Arnold on NBC's The Wonder Years and voiced Dilbert in UPN's animated adaptation of the popular comic strip. Most recently, he guest-starred on the cult comedy Workaholics as the new boss in charge of TelAmeriCorp.
Christina Ricci, another big-screen name who previously toplined ABC's Pan Am, will star in the title role as the coma-stricken Karen. Unexpectedly awakening after many years, Karen discovers she has a 17-year-old daughter named Evie, an overachieving loner whose world is turned upside-down when her mother wakes up.
The role of Evie will be played by Miranda Cosgrove, former star of the Nickolodeon tween sitcom iCarly.
The world has not seen enough of Daniel Stern in the last 15 years, so it would be good to see him in a regular role on TV. Will this be the one?
