In Archer's third season finale, the crew of ISIS headed out into space. For the fourth season finale, it looks like they're headed in a different direction entirely: underwater. Sterling, Lana, and the rest of the dysfunctional spy organization will be going submarine in the final two episodes of season 4. That was hinted at with the fourth season key art, but confirmed by the titles of those final episodes: "Sea Tunt, Parts 1 & 2."
The almost-risque title is a reference, of course, to the brilliantly named Cheryl Tunt (Judy Greer), Malory's absolutely insane secretary who also happens to be the heiress to a rather large railroad fortune. Why is her family name referenced in the title of the episode, though? Are her parents planning an undersea railroad (it's an idea so ludicrous that Archer could pull it off), or is it something else entirely?
Also, as the key art for season 4 also hints, you can bet that the two-part finale will be rife with references to creator Adam Reed's old show, Sealab 2021. Better brush up on your thirteen-year-old Adult Swim cartoons, Archer fans. Or just watch Sealab 2021, regardless: it's got Archer's same brand of banter-based humor, though the animation just isn't as fun.
No word yet if the season 4 finale will feature any major guest voices: season 3's finale featured the voice of Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston.
What do you think? Are you ready for another big-event-style Archer finale?
Archer's next episode, "Live and Let Dine," airs next Thursday on FX.
