'Spy' casts Ken Jeong

Ken Jeong

What is good news for Ken Jeong and Ken Jeong fans may also be bad news for fans of 'Community:' Jeong has signed on opposite Rob Cordry in the upcoming ABC pilot 'Spy.'

Why would Jeong taking a pilot be bad news for his current show, 'Community?' Well after reaching new lows in both ratings and the esteem of critics, it would seem that hopes for another season of 'Community' are dwindling rapidly--Jeong taking a new potential series over at ABC would seem to indicate that even the cast of 'Community' has little reason to believe they'll still be together next year. It is worth noting, however, that 'Spy' would come in second position to Jeong's responsibilities on 'Community,' so should the NBC comedy be renewed there would be no conflict on Jeong's schedule.

Rob CordryBased on the British series of same name, 'Spy' is about a father named Tim (played by funnyman Rob Cordry) who has a highly intelligent son who is basically his opposite in every way. In order to prove himself a worthy father and earn the admiration of his son, Tim takes a job with the Secret Service. Jeong will play a character called The Examiner, a mysterious figure who factors in to Tim's new career in strange and chaotic ways.

Jeong's role as Señor Ben Chang was a breakout for him on television, beginning as a guest star and eventually winning a promotion to series regular. Jeong is also known for his off-the-wall role in both 'The Hangover' features, opposite Brad Cooper and Zack Galifinakis. Rob Cordry is remembered for his tenure on 'The Daily Show with John Stewart.'

Were you a fan of the British version of 'Spy?' Are you excited about this remake?

I am a fan of the British version. I wasn't too happy to see the Americans butchering another UK original. Though I already know what the characters will be like and Jeong will make a fantastic "examiner" so I am actually looking forward to it a lot more than I originally was. Not 100% sure Rob Cordry is the best choice if I'm honest, I would probably prefer someone will Will Arnett, even if he's moving to the new CBS show.

Never seen the original, but this project sounds good and I like the casting here too. Corddry deserves his own series and this sounds like an ideal role for Jeong.
