NBC is preparing a series based on the Hugh Grant film (based on a Nick Hornby novel) "About a Boy," with the creative title of About a Boy.
The series, which is being written by Parenthood's Jason Katims, has added an actress to its growing cast. Anjelah N. Johnson, who is best known for her work on Mad TV, will be playing Laurie, wife of Andy, the best friend of main character Will (played by New Girl's David Walton).
Laurie means well but is a bit overbearing on her three children, yet the kids think she can do no wrong. Both Andy and Laurie think that Will is childish and are unhappy when how he reacts when he learns that they are naming him the godparent of their most recent child.
Obviously anyone who saw the movie knows that Will becomes friends with a boy named Marcus, who lives moves in next-door with his mother Fiona (who will be played in the new series by "Good Will Hunting's" Minnie Driver.
On Mad TV, Johnson played Bon Qui Qui in a sketch that has been viewed more than 60 million times on YouTube. She has also appeared in one of the god-awful Alvin and the Chipmunks films.
Are you going to check out the new series? I will probably give it a shot - I like the film and it is a nice story.
